We are thrilled to announce that Mrs Bloomer has been chosen to be a Teacher Ambassador. We will be using this training to help our children understand British Values and their place within the world as Global Citizens.
Mrs Bloomer has now been confirmed as an accredited UK Parliament Teacher Ambassador (Gold) and will soon be attending the first meeting of the Teachers' Institute.
UK Parliament Week
In the Autumn Term we all took part in UK Parliament Week, using fun activities to learn all about Parliament and how our Government works.
We asked many questions, including -
What is the UK Parliament?
What is the House of Commons?
What is the House of Lords?
What happens at an election?
Why do we need laws?
During our Maths lessons we looked at money, coins and budgets.
During English lessons we held silent debates and also looked at areas which may affect young people such as social media, health, bullying, mental health, education, air quality and work experience.
On 22nd March we hosted a presentation from the Lord Jordan of Bournville to encourage the children to become more aware and more engaged with politics and the parliamentary process. The member of the House of Lords met with Year 6 to talk about his work and role.
He captivated everyone with his journey from humble beginnings to working with world leaders to improve the quality of life for ordinary working people.
Mrs Bloomer said "This was a fantastic opportunity for our students to interact with someone who knows the parliamentary process inside out, as it can sometimes seem far removed from their daily lives, but today they have had a thorough insight into the workings of Westminster."
The visit was arranged through the Lord Speaker's Peers in Schools outreach programme which was established in the UK in 2007.
