Religious Education (RE)

Intent

Children at Woodside will be able to: ask reflective questions; carry out investigations; evaluate ideas; and work constructively with others to understand the beliefs, festivals and celebrations of major religions around the world. They will know how to describe and explain the significance and impact of beliefs on followers of different faiths.   These skills will provide the respect and understanding of the diversity in their own and the wider community.

Implementation

RE at Woodside is supported by the Dudley agreed syllabus for Religious Education 2013 and supplemented by the content of 2021-2026.  It has been carefully sequenced to ensure knowledge and skills are built upon and developed over time.

Impact

Children's RE skills and knowledge are assessed using the criteria provided by the Dudley agreed syllabus for Religious Education.

Right to Withdraw from Religious Education (RE)

In line with statutory requirements, Religious Education (RE) is taught to all pupils as part of the school curriculum. However, parents and carers have the legal right to withdraw their child from all or part of RE, if they wish.

If you are considering withdrawal, we encourage you to contact the Executive Headteacher to discuss your request. This helps us ensure we understand your wishes, explain how RE is taught in our school, and make suitable arrangements for your child.

We fully respect and support the rights of parents and carers in this matter, as set out in the Education Act 1996 and School Standards and Framework Act 1998.
