Welcome to Year 5!
Yours class teachers are:
Mrs Millar (5M)
Miss Bennett (5B)
This year our topics will be:
Walk Like An Egyptian
Infinity and Beyond (Earth and Space)
The Circle of Life
5M will have PE on Wednesdays (indoors) and Thursdays (outdoors).
5B will have PE on Tuesdays (outdoors) and Wednesdays (indoors).
Please ensure long hair is tied back and any earrings removed on these days. It is helpful if girls wearing tights have a spare pair of socks in their PE Bags.
Please make sure all of your child's clothing is named, especially jumpers and cardigans which they take off during the day. This is also very important for PE kit when all the children get changed at once.
Reading regularly at home is of paramount importance to support your child's development. We recommend 20 minutes each day where practically possible. The more familiar the books are, the more pleasurable reading will be for your child. If they are reading the text with ease (reading like talking), this is absolutely fine as this will develop their fluency and reading speed. Questioning your child about what they have read, will help to develop their understanding of the text.
Children are encouraged to read a range of books at home that link to our topics, these can be borrowed from our class libraries.
Pupil Planners are also Reading Records, and there are lists of Year 5 words to read and spell. Planners must be in school every day as they are used to support your child's learning and record any messages
Spellings will be set using the lists in the planners every Wednesday. They will then be tested the following Wednesday (usually 10 spellings per week).
We will set online SPAG homework (www.spag.com) every Monday. This will need to be completed by the following Monday. This can be completed on a computer, tablet or I-pad. the children will have an individual log in which is recorded in their planners.
Maths homework will be given out every Friday and will need to be returned by Wednesday in order for it to be marked.
Family Projects are a fun way for your child to teach you, what they have learned and are learning about in school. Please look out for the family projects set throughout the year and have fun being creative with your child in showcasing their learning.
